The KEGS Foundation is very pleased to announce the launch of a matching donation program, thanks to very generous initial support totaling nearly $20,000 by a select group of concerned geophysicists and organizations. This program will double the impact of donations by individuals, up to a maximum of $250 annually, and is expected to increase participation and donations by the 250+ KEGS members and other supporters in sustaining and advancing the Foundation’s scholarship program.

As was noted in summary comments at the KEGS Breakfast on March 3 and more extensively at the subsequent AGM, the KEGS Foundation is currently marking the tenth year of its scholarship program directed at renewing the cadre of exploration geophysicists in Canada.
Thanks to the sustained generosity of the geophysical and exploration community, the Foundation in its initial decade has supported more than 70 students with awards totaling more than $70,000, while at the same time steadily increasing its endowment funds to approximately $80,000 (which support the Limion, KEGS Pioneers, BCGS, GSC Pioneers and, most recently, Fugro scholarships).
In the current year, the Foundation is supporting a record 21 students (10 undergraduate and 11 graduate students) at nine universities across Canada, as detailed in the announcement of scholarship awards issued last July. Thanks to renewed support by Sander Geophysics twelve of these students attended the KEGS Breakfast (along with the two current recipients of the Don Salt scholarships from the University of Toronto), as seen in several photos from the Breakfast.
Despite the unavoidable collateral impact of the global economic recession, the KEGS Foundation anticipates offering at least a dozen scholarships to qualified students in geophysics for the forthcoming academic year (2090/2010), thanks to continued generous contributions, while at the same time, adhering to its ultra-conservative investment policy, the Foundation anticipates pledged gifts that will bring it close to its target of $100,000 in total endowments as it approaches the end of its first decade.
Additional details on the Foundation’s programs and activities as well as donation and scholarship application forms can be found elsewhere on the Foundation’s website. The Directors welcome any questions re the Foundation’s scholarship program and donation aspects.
